Summer School

So summer school is teaching me many things.... the main one, I MISS MY KINDERGARTNERS! Third graders just aren't the same! I have literally had two moments where I wanted to walk to Mr. Layne's office and say "Um.... just kidding, I don't want to do this.... can you find someone else?" But then I remember, I can do anything for 15 days. It's just that I am having a really hard time figuring out where they are. I have one that can't read period and has just been labeled Special Ed, then I have a few that are actually pretty high. I am having a hard time coming up with activities that are fun. I have enjoyed that I get to teach things other than ABCs and counting. But I'm not liking that they are too cool for school! The first day I tried to let them "get their wiggles out" during a test. Now, my kids would have used this opportunity to jump around the room, or be a kangaroo or a shark for a few minutes. These kids laughed and looked at me like I was silly. But I know deep down that they wanted to do.... but they were too cool. It's so funny, b/c people always laugh when I tell them that I teach kinder and they that I must have a ton of energy to keep them entertained. I think the opposite, with my kids I just have to jump around, sing a fun song, and let them pretend to be their favorite animal and they are happy as they can be. Kindergarten is loud, busy, silly and sometimes a bit messy... but it is so easy to make them happy! These third graders have presented a big struggle for me. I am going to try and ask around and research online for some ideas that I can use to make them have fun.... but in a "cool third grade" kind of way. Hopefully next week will be a bit better than this week.

Other than that, I haven't done ANYTHING that I wanted to do today! I was going to go work out and go shopping for a birthday gift for my dad... that didn't happen. What did I do instead? I took a nap! Well there's always tomorrow.
