Sad News

So this update might be short... I'm going to try to get to the gist of it without crying. I'm feeling really overwhelmed right now, so we'll see how much gets out.

Ok First update, school:
I've survived the first two weeks. The first few days were tough, I'm not going to lie. My kids this year are very different. Last year I had a good balance of shy and talkative children.. this year, I have one shy one. The rest LOVE to talk and are very excited to tell me about things. This is a good think b/c it also means that they are excited about learning, but I am having to change the way I do things, I have to shorten teaching times, b/c these kids get distracted faster, I also have to be more animated. I am seeing TONS of potential, I am just going to have to change my teaching styles, which is what teachers have to do anyways!

The Big News... Gus
Ok, so weeks ago, after we had had Gus for a week, Eric went to go pay our pet deposit with our rental agency. When he went, they kind of cringed and asked how much Gus weighed. Eric told them 40 pounds and she said that was a no go, that their limit was 25. Well Eric called me and told me we were probably going to have to give him back. I cried.... bawled... for the rest of the day. I called the rental agency again and crying asked them what would happen if we got expressed permission from the owner of the house. (b/c we know her personally) They said there was a waver she could sign. So, that was hope! We thought we would be able to keep him! So that Saturday we called Betty and told her the situation. She sounded so positive. She told us that she needed some time to think about it and talk it over with her husband, but that it "shouldn't be a problem." Her exact words! So we thought we were in the clear. We were telling our friends that we were going to get to keep him. We were so happy. Fastforward to Monday... Betty calls. She says that she thought about it and decided that 40 pounds is a big dog and that she isn't comfortable with it. She did suggest us trying a "different dog" (right! like it works that way! Like we hadn't already bonded with Gus) she also said she would be ok with an outside... well that wasn't an option either. So, I cried again, and refused to admit it.... I was bitter, angry, and wanted Gus to mess up the house now. (I have since excepted the facts and with the encouragment of my amazing husband, just understood that this is her house and she has the right to say no) So... the plan. Our AMAZING dog loving friends, Jon and Suzie are going to keep Gus for the three months till our lease is up the first of December. We are really sad about this... but in the long run, what's a few months when he is going to spend the next 10 or so years with us! And at least we are so BLESSED to have such amazing friends who are willing to help us. (I don't know what we can do to repay them!) That leads me to our next update...

Moving
So now we have three months to find a new place to live. We are talking about several options, but we aren't really sure right now. We would appriciate your prayers in that we follow the Lord's direction in this desision. We are aware that some people might think we are being immature and unresponsible for turning our lives upside down b/c of a dog... but we love him! He is apart of our family now. It's completely worth it.

So that's it... It's been a rough few weeks, which is why I've been quiet here and on facebook. I just start crying everytime I look at Gus and realize that he isn't going to be here anymore after tomorrow. I love it when he cuddles up to us, when he runs to get his squeeky bone, when he lays and watches me do dishes or cook, when he chases Eric around the field... I just love having him around! And I'm going to miss him so much... but again, we are so thankful for wonderful friends! Keep us in your prayers...no matter how silly this all may seem.

  1. Hang in there girl. All this will work itself out. Gus will be in good hands and you know God closes one door and opens another for you. I have had to face things like this so many times that sometimes I get over one thing and look up and say "ok, I'm ready for the next trial." You will find a wonderful place that you probably like better and you will all be happy. The fact that you are doing this shows how much love you have in your heart. You are doing a great job with your kids--I see you everyday and you take care of them like a pro. Keep on doing what you are doing--things will get better.
